Our Story
In 2023, Natalie and Caroline Jesalva competed for the opportunity to perform with the Boston Pops. With everyone else playing Sibelius violin concerto, they wanted to go in with something fresh and new - something that had never been done: a violin duo by a woman composer. They scoured the school library, teacher recommendations, and the internet for a double violin concerto that would represent them and speak to their strengths. And guess what! They couldn’t find anything. In Natalie and Caroline’s search for music to play together, they discovered a problem in the collaborative violin repertoire - there really aren’t a lot of pieces for this instrumentation written by women composers. And that is how Subject to Change was born.
Natalie and Caroline met in the Summer of 2016 at Meadowmount School of Music and later reconnected while earning their degrees at New England Conservatory.
“We have cultivated a musical partnership that is unique and bonded by our love for new music, interdisciplinary collaboration, and friendship. Together, we are excited to be launching Subject to Change and pursuing our love of commissioning and performing new works.” - Caroline & Natalie
